Local news is the lifeblood of small towns like Mora, New Mexico- an area with little to no local news coverage. But let's remember this was the first location in the country to reject fracking, solidifying its reputation as a community that puts its values first. Once also known as the 'basket of New Mexico', a nod to its agricultural bounty.
But in recent years, Mora has faced a new challenge-becoming a "news desert," an area with little to no local media coverage. That's why I'm grateful for the support of the New Mexico Local News Fund. They've provided the resources and guidance to make this small publication possible.
Our mission is to engage the youth of Mora and fill that local news gap. By the end of this project, we've been able to launch the Uplands Uplifting News website, providing regular updates on what's happening around town.
Going forward, we hope to continue delivering news that inspires and engages the Mora community. And we want to encourage all of you to share your own local stories and "firsts" so we can celebrate together.
