Ty Minton-native plant lover
Rocky Mountain Bee Plant — Cleomella serrulate.

What would the landscape knowledge about northern New Mexico’s native plants would be like without Ty Minton’s devotion and tireless efforts to classify them. In addition to his work with local organizations, he made significant contributions, resulting in shaping the way we appreciate our unique ecosystems.

Ty Minton was an engaged member of the Taos NM Native Plant Society. Since his arrival in 2001 together with his wife Gael actively participated in outings planned during monthly meetings of both the Taos NM Native Plant Society and the Taos Archeological Society at the San Geronimo Lodge. During the trips throughout New Mexico, he meticulously compiled plants lists, noting each species’ Latin and common names, as well as its preferred habitat.

Minton’s legacy extends even further, as he was instrumental in the creation of the native plant garden at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos that today allows visitors and nature enthusiasts to easily identify wildflowers and hardy shrubs, as well as offering a tangible connection to this rich land.
